Goodbye Rice, Hello Realism...Need For Speed Bringing it Back

So EA had announced a while back that the Need For Speed Franchise was getting a face lift. Well a few months have passed and no one seems to really care that more Need For Speed games were going to be targeting teenage boys hoping to deck out their Hyundai Tiburon or Honda Civic with neon lights and a cold air intake thinking it would transform into this amazing tuner that could somehow beat a Nissan Skyline.

With that rant aside, I checked the stories from GDC today to see that Need for Speed: Shift is one of the headlines of a very common blog site, and immediately think, "oh shit, not again", while pressing play to see the below preview of the new racing sim entry.

To my surprise, the game looks somewhat promising. Real cars without the neon lights and window tinting, could it be that EA is bringing the franchise back in the direction of Hot Pursuit? I can only dream.

Be sure to check out the clip, as you won't be disappointed. EA is also working on Need for Speed: World Online for the PC, a free to play MMO racer...really?!?!? Hey if its free to play can it really hurt to try?
